Cafes in Sydney opens pretty early everyday (usually from 7AM) but they can close pretty early too (earliest can be at 4PM). So I tried to make it a habit to start the day early. By my early, we only were able to get out from our accommodation around 9-ish. Not too shabby and yet, no difference than how we usually roll in Singapore. XD

But the good thing about coming out at 9AM on a weekday is we don't have to deal with the morning crowd. A lot of office workers get a fix of their morning coffee and breakfast from the cafe and hence, most cafes are crowded prior to 9AM. When we were reaching Bourke Street, the area is pretty peaceful and quiet.

Bourke Street Bakery is located at the corner of Bourke Street in Surry Hills. The cafe was opened by a duo, Paul Allam and David McGuinness, who are both bakers and chefs. The cafe is famous for its pastries and tarts. But it also offers other things like sandwiches.

Our orders are served on simple tin plates. We tried two of their favourite items, the Pear Danish and White Chocolate, Passionfruit and Meringue Tart.

After a bite from the croissant and the tart, I definitely can vouch that these are one of the best pastries I have ever eaten in my whole life. Bourke Street Bakery's humble setting does not make them compromise on the quality. I guess they are the perfect sample of you don't have to be so glam to serve a delicious food.

The tart is perfect too. I initially thought Meringue may be too sweet but the whole combination of the white chocolate, passionfruit and the meringue works perfectly without being too sweet. I like the crunchy and yet not easily crumbling texture of the tarts too.

If you are planning to visit Sydney, you must not miss out Bourke Street Bakery for a perfect pastries experience. The cafe is located at the corner of Devonshire and Bourke Street (i.e. 633 Bourke Street). It opens from 7AM to 6PM on weekdays and to 5PM on weekends.
